Country-Style Hardy Split Pea Soup
- add review
- #87187
1-2 hrs
ingredients
8 cups chicken broth, homemade or canned
2 cups split peas
2 onions, finely chopped
1 cup thinly sliced carrots
1/4 teaspoon paprika
6 slices bacon, cooked crisp, drained and crumbled
salt, pepper, garlic powder to taste
directions
Combine all ingredients in a Dutch oven casserole. Cover and simmer mixture for 1 hour 15 minutes or until dried peas are very soft and fall apart. Stir every now and again, making certain that the heat is low and that the peas do not scorch.
Soup can be put in a blender, if you wish, but in this case, the texture is very nice. Serve it with some freshly baked bread and sweet butter and it is really a very hardy meal.

They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.
This Italian cheese is so versatile that it can be used in both sweet and savory recipes from cheesecakes to lasagnas.
