No sugar-packed, slushy-machine margs here! Salted glasses filled with tequila, lime juice, and a sweet touch of agave topped with a float of Grand Marnier make a classy cocktail indeed.

ingredients

margarita salt
2 1/2 limes
1 1/2 tablespoon agave nectar
1/3 cup tequila
2 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons Cointreau or Grand Marnier

directions

Fill one shallow plate with tequila salt. Using 1/2 a lime, generously rub the rim of a high ball glass. Dip the glass into the plate of tequila salt. Fill the glass with ice.

To the ice add the fresh juice of two limes, agave nectar, tequila, and water. Stir to combine. Pour Cointreau or Grand Marnier in a swirl over the top of the glass to create a floater. Serve.

I bought a 3 Lb bag of limes from Sams Club, made just one drink to taste first. I added a bit more water and a bit more agave for my taste buds. Then continued to squeeze the rest of limes, added the tequila and put in jars in freezer (alcohol does not freeze, adding the lime juice makes it slushy.). Then when I’m ready for a margarita I just add the rest of the ingredients

  2. coco loco REVIEW:

Love this margarita! Not sure why people are complaining about stupid things like measurements. Cups and tbs work just fine and the margarita is delicious. Always use GOOD tequila never cheap stuff. The key in this recipe is the cointreau as it really brings out some delicious flavors in the drink.

  3. kaptngrey REVIEW:

I found this recipe to be incredibly helpful! I do feel as though the measurements should have been converted to ounces but that was only a slight hinderance. Might I suggest to future readers that an aged "reservado" tequila worked wonderfully for me.

  4. Rita REVIEW:

I think the proportion are good but a little more guidance with the type of tequila would be nice (how to balance quality without going overboard with a mix)
