common recipe questions

What is Bisquick?

Bisquick is a pre-mixed baking mix that typically contains flour, shortening, salt, and baking powder, making it convenient for quick and easy recipes.

Can I use margarine instead of butter?

Margarine can be used as a substitute for butter in this recipe with similar results.

What size baking pan should I use?

An 11x7 baking pan is recommended for this recipe to make sure the cobbler bakes evenly.

Can I use a different flavor of pie filling?

You can use any flavor of pie filling that you prefer or have on hand.

How do I know when the cobbler is done?

The cobbler is done when the batter is puffed and lightly browned, and the filling is bubbly. It should take about 30-35 minutes in the oven.

How do I serve the cobbler?

Serve the cobbler with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream, if desired. Or, serve it plain.

What is the purpose of melting the butter in the baking pan first?

Melting the butter in the baking pan before adding the batter helps to create a buttery crust on the bottom of the cobbler.

Can I use a different baking mix instead of Bisquick?

If you don't have Bisquick on hand, you can try making your own baking mix with flour, baking powder, salt, and a bit of shortening.

How should I store leftover cobbler?

Leftover cobbler can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave before serving.

Can I freeze the cobbler?

While the cobbler can be frozen, the texture of the topping may change slightly upon thawing. It is best enjoyed fresh.

I've probably made this with every pie filling flavor imagineable. It's just so easy that I keep returning to it. Everyone enjoys it and it's something I can put together quickly with little effort or fuss.

  2. Janet REVIEW:

Made it with cherry pie filling. Great taste, but a little too much "bread" for me. If I make it again, I'll cut down on the amount of dough in the pan and "swirl" the fruit throughout so you get fruit in every bite. Tasted wonderful with vanilla ice cream!
