ingredients
1/2 pound elbow macaroni
water for boiling
1 teaspoon butter
1 egg, beaten
1 teaspoon table salt
1/8 teaspoon black pepper, optional
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1 tablespoon hot water
3 cups grated cheese, sharp (divided 2 cups, 1 cup)
1 cup milk
directions
Boil macaroni in water until tender and drain thoroughly. Stir in butter and egg. Mix mustard and salt with 1 tablespoon hot water and add to milk. Add cheese leaving enough to sprinkle on top.
Pour into buttered casserole dish, add milk, sprinkle with cheese. Bake at 350 degrees F for about 45 minutes or until custard is set and top is crusty.
