Fun Food Holidays™ May is National Strawberry Month
I fondly remember my mother's tiered strawberry planters growing up. It was very exciting when the fruit was ready to be harvested. Peak season is April thru June, and these delicious berries can be grown in nearly every state in the U.S. When selecting strawberries, choose bright red and plump berries with the caps attached. Do not wash until ready to use or eat. Store the berries in a container in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 days.
Strawberries are good source of vitamin C, potassium and iron.
Strawberries can be purchased fresh or frozen, and as jams, jellies and syrups.
