National Ice Cream Soda Day commemorates a Philadelphia-invented treat that has been a popular summertime favorite for generations. And in the days leading up to Prohibition, it was thought that soda pop might contain controlled substances like alcoholic beverages and was therefore banned for sale on Sundays.
