TGIF! And time for some cooking games!

by Guest Writer, Valerie Whitmore

TGIF! Although, I have to admit that Fridays don't mean much to me. Tuesday, Friday - they are all the same in my world. I work 7 days a week so "weekends" just mean that the office phone doesn't ring for two days. And the only way I know it's Friday some weeks is that there is a new cooking jigsaw due on the website.

The game section on CDK was created primarily to challenge my own coding prowess. I had fun integrating the games into the site and making them all cooking related. But, like a lot of my projects, they fell by the wayside as I took on new projects elsewhere on the site.

That was a mistake.

We started getting helpdesk messages complaining about the lack of new jigsaw puzzles. People were hooked and they wanted more... MORE!

The games are definitely addicting. One nice thing about the jigsaw puzzles is that they have different levels of difficulty ranging from 16 to 150 pieces.  There is even a double-sided version of each puzzle that lets you pick between two images to complete. The pieces are scrambled so you have to flip some over to fit them together

Putting together the jigsaws is easy. You just need a mouse or touch pad to move the pieces around. When you find two that fit, they automatically snap together. When you complete a puzzle you get a fanfare of fireworks. The puzzles require Flash to run, so they don't work on Apple gadgets like the iPhone or iPad, unfortunately

The cooking jigsaw is by far the most popular game on the site but we have over a dozen more from crossword puzzles to wordfinds. We even have some interactive games like running your own virtual coffee shop.

So if you're looking to kill some time while waiting out the office clock this Friday afternoon, try one of our fun games. I won't tell your boss, I promise. I won't get any playtime this Friday afternoon, however. Despite being a gorgeous sunny day here in Austin and the dogs beckoning me to play outside with them, I'll be trapped indoors cleaning up the test kitchen. We started testing Thanksgiving recipes this week. 'Nuff said.
