New Features Coming Soon
by Guest Writer, Valerie Whitmore
I feel like it's been weeks since I posted anything, but in reality it's only been a few days. As I mentioned in my cupcake post for National Vanilla Cupcake Day, I've been battling bronchitis for a couple of weeks. While I haven't been sick-in-bed sick, I haven't been myself either. I just haven't gotten much accomplished.
Food posts and reviews will be coming later this week (because, despite being sick I've still been cooking) but I wanted to share some of the new things we have coming up soon on the website. That is, once I get my brain back on track and get to work!
First up is a new weekly menu feature. We currently have daily "featured" recipes in a variety of categories like kid-friendly, baked goods, and desserts. We'll still have some of them (like the crockpot and daily dinner dash ones) but we're going to change things a little to create daily menu ideas that you can pick from. Monday through Thursday will feature an entree with appropriately matched side dishes. Friday will include a happy hour cocktail. Saturday will add breakfast and lunch ideas, and Sunday will have a heartier brunch option and a crockpot dinner recipe. I think this will be a more cohesive way to feature recipes than to randomly choose them as we had been doing.
The second new feature at CDK will be a weekly series called Foodie Friday. Every week we'll scour the blogosphere and find a recipe to share with you. There are some amazing food bloggers out there and we're hoping to showcase their talents by sampling some of their recipes each week. There will also be a way for you to let us know about your favorite blogs so we can check them out and maybe feature them in the future.
Lastly, and the project I'm most excited about (because I'm geeky like that), is a new recipEbox login. It's bugged me for years that logging in to save a recipe, write a review, or upload a photo requires a tedious, multiple page process. That's all going to change. Soon (hopefully by this weekend) you'll be able to click one button and an overlay screen will come up that will let you log in, sign up if you're a new user, upload a photo, write a review, download a recipe to Mastercook, or save one of our 120K recipes to your personal recipEbox. Cool, huh? I'm actually going to be completely revamping the recipEbox feature later this year, so this is just the first step in making it easier to use
Of course, I have even MORE projects in the works but these are the ones that have an actual completion date in the immediate future
