CDKitchen https://www.cdkitchen.com
Serves/Makes: 6 | Ready In: 30-60 minutes
8 ounces ziti or elbow macaroni pasta
1 pound lean ground beef
1/2 cup chopped onion
1 green bell pepper, seeded and chopped
1 can (14.5 ounce size) diced tomatoes, undrained
1 can (8 ounce size) tomato sauce
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1 clove garlic, minced
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
2 cups shredded Mozzarella cheese, divided
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Cook the pasta to al dente as directed on the package. Drain well and set aside.
Meanwhile, heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef, onion, and bell pepper and cook, stirring frequently, until the beef is browned and the onion is soft. Drain off any excess grease.
Stir the tomatoes, tomato sauce, basil, oregano, garlic, salt, and pepper into the beef mixture. Cook, stirring constantly, for 2 minutes.
Stir the cooked pasta and half of the Mozzarella cheese into the beef mixture. Mix well then pour the mixture into a 2 1/2-quart baking dish.
Top the meat and pasta with the remaining Mozzarella. Place the baking dish in the oven and bake at 350 degrees F for 25-30 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the sauce is bubbly.
Serve hot.
