I kept checking this recipe as there was no buttermilk or wet ingredients and the batter was like dough. I followed the recipe exact and just don't know what went wrong. Quite dry and very plain tasting, maybe the 1/4 tsp of baking power and no soda, they didn't rise and actually fell in the middle. Very labor intensive to get the lilac flowers off which themselves are very flavorful to have such a disappointing result. I am looking for an alternative recipe but am having no luck.
