Baked Chayotes

ingredients
2 pounds chayotes
butter
1/2 pound cooked ham, chopped
1 cup whipping cream
1/2 pound Jack cheese, grated
salt and pepper, to taste
directions
Cook chayotes in boiling water until tender, about 45 minutes to 1 hour depending on size. Peel and cut in half and discard seeds. Cut in slices.
Grease a casserole with butter and arrange alternate layers of chayotes and ham, salt and pepper, cream and cheese and ending with cheese. Dot with butter.
Bake uncovered at 375 degrees F until browned.
