ingredients
1/2 pound butter
2 cups sugar
5 eggs, separated
4 ounces chocolate, melted
2 1/4 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup sour milk
directions
Cream butter, add sugar gradually and mix well. Add chocolate melted over hot water and and mix in well. Add beaten yolks. Beat mixture thoroughly.
Sift flour, measure and sift twice with salt and soda. Add to the first mixture alternately with sour milk beating well after each addition. Add vanilla and fold in beaten egg whites.
Pour into in three greased 9 inch pans. Bake in a moderate oven at 375 degrees F for about 25 minutes.

I made this recipe a few years ago and came back today (thank goodness for bookmarks) to make it again. Absolutely delicious. I used 97% pure chocolate and this cake was black as night but it was so good you KNOW It had to be bad! (the way a devil cake should be). Everyone LOVED it.
