Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.
Easy Cream Cheese Stuffed French Toast
- add review
- #2284
ingredients
1 loaf French bread
1 container flavored cream cheese (e.g., strawberry, pineapple, etc.)
4 eggs
2/3 cup milk
4 tablespoons flour
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
directions
Mix the eggs, milk, flour and vanilla (it should look like a really thin batter like crepes) Cut the French bread into thick slices. Next, butterfly the slices of French bread (do not cut through them all the way).
Spread your favorite cream cheese inside. Grill until done and serve with your favorite syrup.
CDKitchen Note: This recipe is missing some directions. After spreading the cream cheese inside the bread, dip it into the egg batter to coat on both sides. Then grill (in a skillet or griddle) until done, flipping once, until browned on both sides.

This recipe was excellent. I made just a few changes. I made my own cream cheese filling with cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla (berries would work nice also). I used Texas style toast bread instead of French. I grilled these on med. heat for 1 min on each side, then I put them in the oven at 180 degrees to keep them warm and help them cook through. I topped them with powdered sugar to serve.
