INGREDIENTS:

1 1/2 pound ground beef
1 large onion, chopped
1 tablespoon oil
1 can (12 ounce size) V-8 vegetable juice
1 can (8 ounce size) tomato sauce
5 whole allspice
1 bay leaf, crumbled
1 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
6 medium carrots, cut into 1 inch pieces
cooked macaroni


DIRECTIONS:

Brown beef and onion in oil, breaking up meat as it cooks. Stir in remaining ingredients. Simmer, covered, stirring occasionally for 30 minutes or until carrots are tender. Serve over cooked wagon wheels or other macaroni.

I followed the recipe, exactly, except that I found the larger carrots were bitter, so I used small carrots (cut in half), instead. It was delicious! My husband and I both like the carrots in the goulash. Cathy

It was wonderful! I made a few alterations to the recipe, but it was great, never thought to add carrots, and I added mushrooms too! Here are some other alterations I made... Also don’t forget to add minced garlic, garlic powder, onion powder, minced onion, and the secret ingredient my father taught me, but I can't say what that was, or it wouldn't be secret!. Johnny preferred it with a little extra pepper. I didn’t have whole all spice whatevers so I used ground allspice a few shakes of it.
