Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.

- #49038
under 30 minutes
ingredients
1/2 cup sugar
4 tablespoons butter
1 cup slivered blanched almonds
directions
Stir sugar, butter, and almonds constantly in heavy skillet until they are a light caramel color. Spread on greased cookie sheet to crisp and cool.
Break caramelized almonds apart when crisp by putting in a plastic bag and rolling a rolling pin over all until you have crumbly chunks.
These will keep indefinitely in an airtight container. They are also delicious on coffee ice cream.

It may look like a sad little package shoved in the back of your freezer, but frozen spinach actually has a lot of culinary uses (and some may surprise you).
Love buffalo wings? Get that same hot, zippy flavor in everything from deviled eggs to enchiladas. And of course: wings.
