Dressing up frozen veggies into a genuine side dish is an excellent skill to have up your sleeve in a pinch. Mushrooms and onion flakes turn some plain frozen peas into something substantial.

1 package (10 ounce size) frozen green peas
1 1/2 cup water
1 can (4 ounce size) sliced mushrooms, drained
1 tablespoon butter or margarine
1 1/2 teaspoon dried onion flakes
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Combine the peas and water in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a simmer and cook, stirring occasionally, until the peas are heated through.
Drain off the liquid then stir in the mushrooms, butter, onion flakes, salt, and pepper.
Reduce the heat to low, cover the pan, and let cook for 5 minutes.
Remove the pan from the heat and stir the peas gently. Serve immediately.
