1 pound red kidney beans; soaked overnight in water 16 ounces stewed tomatoes 1 ham hock (optional but preferred) 1 teaspoon basil 1 teaspoon thyme 1 onion, chopped 2 garlic cloves, minced black pepper and salt to taste 1 1/2 cup white rice 1/2 cup white wine (optional)
Put the everything except the rice and wine in the crockpot at the same time. Cook on high for 4 hours, then on low for 6 hours. During the last 1 1/2 hours, add the rice. The final ingredient is about the 1/2 cup of white wine. You can add this whenever and it is optional, of course.
