ingredients

1/2 tablespoon oil
1 medium onion, chopped fine
1/2 bell pepper, chopped fine
1 can (16 ounce size) pinto or red kidney beans, drained and rinsed
1/4 cup wheat germ
1 cup thick tomato sauce
1 tablespoon soy sauce or tamari
1 teaspoon chili powder (optional)
1 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
6 hamburger buns

directions

Heat oil, then saute onion and bell pepper for 3-4 minutes. Add remaining ingredients except buns and bring to a simmer.

Mash beans lightly with fork or potato masher. Simmer loosely covered for 5-7 minutes or until preferred consistency, stirring occasionally.

Serve on buns.
