ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons unsweetened Dutch process cocoa
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup raisins (optional)
1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
1/2 cup milk
2 tablespoons margarine or butter, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Topping

3/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup unsweetened Dutch process cocoa
2 cups boiling water
2 tablespoons margarine or butter

directions

Mix flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, cocoa and cinnamon. Stir in raisins and/or nuts, if using.

Combine milk, melted margarine and vanilla. Add to dry ingredients, mixing to form stiff batter.

Spoon into greased 8 inch casserole. Combine topping ingredients and pour over batter. Bake at 350 degrees F for 40-50 minutes or until cake tests done. Cake will rise to top and liquid will go to bottom and form rich sauce.

Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.
