2 tablespoons milk
4 slices bread

1 egg
1/2 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon salt

Combine hamburger, onion, salt and milk.

Spread each bread slice with mustard. Cover with 1/4 c. beef mixture. Cut each slice in half crosswise. Dip into a mixture of egg, milk and salt.

Confused...do you put the pieces of bread together like a sandwich or only dip a half sandwich in the batter? It says "bread side down first" so I assume the latter? Would it work to put a slice of bread on both sides of the ground beef mixture. This recipe is intriguing but I'm unclear on it.

    • You are only spreading the beef mixture on one side of the bread. You then cut that slice in half and dip the entire half into the batter and then fry it, starting with the bread side (the non-meat side). Hope that helps!
