30-60 minutes
ingredients
1 quart berries of your choice
1 quart water
4 tablespoons butter
3/4 cup sugar
2 cups self-rising flour
6 tablespoons shortening
2/3 cup milk
directions
Put the berries and water into a big pot and cook over medium heat until the berries are done. Stir in the butter and sugar.
Mix self-rising flour and shortening with a fork and add milk. Mix to form a dough. Drop by tablespoonfuls into the boiling berry mixture.
After all of the dumplings have been dropped into the berries, cover the pot and reduce the heat to low and cook for another 8 to 10 minutes.
Be sure the berry mixture is boiling and do not stir the dumplings or they will stick together.

Ah, the unassuming envelope of onion soup mix. It's more than just for onion soup (or dip). It adds tremendous flavor (and convenience) in all these recipes.
