The name, vodka, comes from the Russian phrase zhiznennaia voda, or "water of life". It can be made from everything from potatoes to beets. It's considered to be fairly flavorless which makes it a great liquor for mixed drinks.

Fresh green beans are blanched then tossed with red onion and a balsamic vinaigrette then topped with toasted sesame seeds.

1 pound fresh green beans, ends trimmed, cut in thirds
1/4 small red onion, peeled, thinly sliced
6 tablespoons flavored oil
1 tablespoon grated lemon zest
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
2 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds
Heat pan of salted water to boiling on high heat. Add beans and blanch until crisp-tender, 2-3 minutes. Drain and shock by placing in ice water (to stop cooking process); drain well. Combine beans with red onion in medium-size bowl.
Whisk together oil, zest, juice, and vinegar in small bowl. Pour over vegetables. Salt and pepper to taste. Toss and garnish with sesame seed.
