The name, vodka, comes from the Russian phrase zhiznennaia voda, or "water of life". It can be made from everything from potatoes to beets. It's considered to be fairly flavorless which makes it a great liquor for mixed drinks.

ingredients
1 cup butter (no substitue)
1 cup sugar
2 egg yolks
2 1/2 cups plain flour
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)
directions
Cream butter and sugar. Add egg yolks. Stir in vanilla and flour. Roll in balls and place on cookie sheet. Flatten with a fork to about 1 1/2 inches in diameter. Bake in a 350 degree oven until edges are brown, about 10 minutes.
Easy to double for more cookies.
