1/2 cup margarine
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 cups refried beans or pinto beans
1/2 cup chopped nuts (such as toasted)
1 1/4 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon ground allspice


1 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup milk
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1 teaspoon vanilla extract


To make the cake: Cream margarine, eggs and sugar.

Put fully cooked pinto beans through a blender or food processor until they are soft and smooth and no lumps. Add the beans to creamed mixture alternately with the sifted dry ingredients. Add nuts.

Bake in greased and floured 9x13-inch pan 1 hour or until done.

Glaze immediately, or no longer than still warm to the touch, and pour over the glaze.

To make the Glaze: Mix sugar, milk and butter butter in a heavy saucepan. Boil 5 minutes, stir in vanilla. Pour over hot cake.

You may add mini-chocolate chips to this cake's batter before it goes into the oven.
