Dad's Perfect Cake Recipe

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease cake pan with vegetables shortening and dust with flour, or use vegetables pan spray. For easier handling, place pans on a cookie sheet.

In large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time. Combine flour, baking powder and mace.

Add flour mixture alternately with milk to butter mixture, beating after each addition. Add vanilla. Beat at medium high speed until smooth.

Pour into prepared pans. Bake 40-45 minutes or until toothpick inserted into center comes out clean.

Cool in pans 15 minutes or rack; remove cakes from pans and cool completely. Spread icing as desired.
