Canadian Brown Sugar Oatmeal Scones Recipe

Ingredients:
3 cups uncooked oatmeal
3 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons salt
1 cup brown sugar
2 sticks cold butter or margarine
1/4 cup cold water or as needed
Directions:
Mix all dry ingredients in order listed . Cut in the shortening as for pie pastry. Add enough cold until a pliable dough consistency. Roll 1/2 inch thick on a floured surface. Cut into desired shapes. Place on ungreased baking sheets an inch apart. Bake 400F until golden, about 20 minutes. Yield depends on size cut. Serve warm with butter and jam. Oatmeal makes these dense and the brown sugar sweet.
