Creamy Cabbage Casserole With Cheesy Topping

ingredients
1 small cabbage, coarsley chopped
1 medium onion, chopped
1/4 cup butter
salt and pepper, to taste
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 can cream of chicken or mushroom soup
Topping
1/4 cup butter
1 cup grated, sharp cheddar cheese
1 stack Ritz crackers or any butter crackers, finely crushed
directions
Place cabbage into a casserole dish, sprinkle the onions over top of the cabbage. Melt 1/4 cup butter and pour over the cabbage. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
In a small bowl, mix soup and mayonnaise and spread over the cabbage mixture.
Melt the remaining butter and mix with the grated cheese and crushed crackers-spread over top of casserole. Bake at 350 degrees F for about 45 minutes or until top is brown and inside is bubbly.
