Directions:

Dr. Bircher, a Swiss doctor and nutritionist, invented this healthy recipe for a light and easy dinner and to insure a healthy diet with available ingredients during WW I when many supplies were short. Children love it.

Mix the oats with the milk and sugar. Wash the apple and grate into the oat mixture. Add lemon juice and stir well to prevent discoloration of the apple. Slice the banana. Peel, halve and pit the orange and cut into thin slices. Cut the berries or other fruit into small pieces. Add all fruit to the oat mixture and stir. Top with ground nuts before serving.

Note: Garnish with whipped cream as desired. In Dr. Bircher's original recipe, only apples are used and instead of milk, a half- and-half water and condensed milk mixture.
