Beer makes batters better, meat more tender, and sauces more flavorful.

If you're tight on time on a Tuesday and think you can't throw together a savory dish, this crazy simple meat loaf might just change your mind: Mix it all up, toss it in the oven for an hour, and voila! A weeknight classic.

2 pounds ground beef
1/3 cup quick-cooking tapioca
1/3 cup finely chopped onion
3 teaspoons salt (optional)
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon dried savory (optional)
1 1/2 cup canned crushed tomatoes
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
In a bowl, mix together the beef, tapioca, onion, salt, pepper, savory, and tomatoes. Mix well then transfer the mixture to a 10x5 loaf pan or meatloaf pan.
Place in the oven and bake at 350 degrees F for 1 to 1 1/4 hours. Let stand for 5 minutes then slice and serve.
