Hamburger Casserole II

1 pound ground beef
1 onion chopped (mild, sweet type, as Vidalia if available)
2 tablespoons shortening (or bacon drippings)
1 clove garlic, crushed, peeled, minced (optional)
3 tablespoons tomato ketchup
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon table salt
1 can Veg-All mixed vegetables
1 cup macaroni pasta
Cook and drain macaroni. Set aside.
Brown meat and onion in a little fat. Add crushed garlic (optional) -- Do NOT brown garlic. Add ketchup, seasonings. Stir in drained vegetables and cooked macaroni. Simmer until liquid is reduced. Serve hot.
