Butter Bean And Ham Soup

1/2 pound ham, minced or cubed
1 onion, diced small
1 carrot, diced small
1 stalk celery, diced small
2 cans (16 ounce size) butter beans, undrained
4 cups water or chicken broth
Saute ham and onion a few minutes in stockpot. Add rest of ingredients and bring to a boil.
Once boiling, reduce heat to a simmer. Cover and simmer soup 40-60 minutes (or more if desired).
Season with salt and pepper if desired.
