Ingredients:
1 1/2 cup milk -- scalded
1/3 cup shortening
4 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 packages active dry yeast
1/4 cup water -- warmed
2 eggs -- well beaten
4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour -- sifted
melted butter
sugar

Directions:

Pour hot milk over shortening, sugar, salt and spices in mixing bowl; cool to lukewarm. Stir yeast with warm water and add with beaten eggs to lukewarm milk mixture. Stir in flour and beat until well mixed (add up to 1/4 cup more, if needed). Cover and let stand in warm place about 1 hour until doubled in bulk.

Turn out onto well-floured surface; turn dough over 2 to 3 times to shape it into a soft ball. Roll out lightly, about 1/2-inch thick, being careful not to stretch dough. Cut with doughnut cutter; place carefully 2-inches apart on greased baking sheets.

Brush with melted butter and let rise in a warm place until doubled in bulk, about 30 minutes. Bake at 425 F. for 8 to 10 minutes until golden brown. Remove from oven; brush each doughnut with melted butter and roll in sugar to coat.
