ingredients

1/4 cup margarine
1 cup carrots, diced
1 cup celery, diced
1/2 cup onions, minced
3 tablespoons flour
1 can (13 ounce size) chicken broth
2 cups broccoli florets
1 package (8 ounce size) shredded cheddar cheese
1 1/2 cup half and half
salt and pepper

directions

Melt margarine in large saucepan. Add carrots, celery and onions. Cook until tender. Stir in flour. Cook for 1 minute. Add broth and broccoli. Simmer for 5 minutes. Stir in cheese, half-and-half, and salt and pepper to taste. Simmer for 5 minutes. (Do not boil.)

This doesn't seem like enough time for the broccoli unless it is already cooked. Do I cook the broccoli first?
