Serves/Makes:   20

  

Ingredients:
1 quart water
2 cups sugar
12 whole cloves
4 cinnamon sticks
6 whole allspice
1/2 teaspoon ginger
1 orange, peel of
1 lemon, peel of
2 cups orange juice
1 cup lemon juice
1 fifth bottle burgundy or claret
OR
2 quarts cider

Directions:

Combine water, sugar, spices, lemon and orange peels in a saucepan. Bring to boil until sugar dissolves. Simmer 10 minutes. Remove from heat and let stand 1 hour.

Strain and add juices and wine. Heat, but do not boil. Serve hot in mugs and garnish with lemon and/or orange slices.

(Hint: Place spices in cheesecloth bag to make removal easy)
