Serves/Makes:   4.5 dozen

  

Ingredients:
1/2 cup shortening
2 tablespoons margarine
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1/4 cup molasses
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon

Directions:

Mix all dry ingredients (except sugar) and set aside. Cream shortening, margarine, and sugar. Add eggs and molasses; mix well. Add dry ingredients and mix well. Cover and chill for at least 1 hour.

Roll into 1" balls, roll in sugar. Bake on ungreased cookie sheets at 350F for about 10 minutes or until tops are cracked and bottoms are light brown.
