The name, vodka, comes from the Russian phrase zhiznennaia voda, or "water of life". It can be made from everything from potatoes to beets. It's considered to be fairly flavorless which makes it a great liquor for mixed drinks.

ingredients
3/4 cup top-quality canned tomato puree
1 1/2 pound cherry tomatoes, frozen
1/4 cup fresh lime juice PLUS"PLUS" means this ingredient in addition to the one on the next line, often with divided uses
2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
1 tablespoon prepared horseradish
1/4 teaspoon fresh-ground black pepper
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon Tabasco sauce
1/2 teaspoon celery seed
3/4 cup vodka, if desired
GARNISH
celery stalks
large green olives

Combine all ingredients in a blender and puree until smooth. Pour into large glasses and garnish with celery and olives.
