A pinch of creativity can elevate any dish - this homemade salt substitute is the perfect way to do just that. It's a simple blend of flavors that adds zing without the sodium.

2 tablespoons dry mustard
2 tablespoons onion powder
2 tablespoons garlic powder
2 tablespoons paprika
1 tablespoon white pepper
1 tablespoon ground thyme
2 tablespoons crushed basil leaves
Combine all ingredients in a shaker and serve in place of salt. Choose spices which are coarsely ground for a better texture.

This is one of my favorite salt substitutes. I think it's the dry mustard that sets it apart and makes you forget you're not using salt. It's also just a good all around spice blend.
