Ah, the unassuming envelope of onion soup mix. It's more than just for onion soup (or dip). It adds tremendous flavor (and convenience) in all these recipes.
Low-Fat Shrimp in Black Bean Sauce

ingredients
1/4 cup fermented Chinese black beans
2 tablespoons dry sherry
2 slices fresh ginger root, minced
1 teaspoon sugar
1/8 teaspoon white pepper
1/2 cup fat free chicken broth
2 teaspoons low sodium soy sauce
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1/2 cup fat free chicken broth
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 pounds baby shrimp
6 cups cooked rice
directions
Wash and soak black beans for 15 minutes in cold water.
Drain, rinse again and crush beans lightly. Set aside.
In a small bowl, combiner sherry, ginger, sugar and pepper. Set aside.
In a blender, combine broth, soy sauce and cornstarch. Mix on high for 1 minute and set aside.
In a wok set on high, heat 1/2 cup broth. Add garlic and shrimp and stir fry for 2 minutes. Add ginger mixture and stir fry for 1 minute. Add beans and stir fry for 1 minute.
Stir in cornstarch mixture and continue to stir until sauce has thickened. Cook for two more minutes.
Remove from heat. Serve hot over rice.
