Spiced Cranberry Muffins Recipe

Ingredients:
3/4 cup fresh or frozen cranberries
1/2 cup sugar (divided use)
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
3 tablespoons butter
2 teaspoons grated orange zest
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400 F. Coarsely chop cranberries; place in small bowl. Add 1/3 cup of the sugar to cranberries. Set aside.
In a large bowl stir together flour, spices, remaining sugar, baking powder and salt.
In a medium bowl beat egg with milk, melted butter and orange zest. Add egg mixture to flour mixture, stirring only until flour is moistened, stirring in cranberry mixture with the last few strokes.
Spoon batter into greased 2 1/2-inch muffin tins. Bake until well browned, about 25 to 30 minutes. Serve warm.
