Not to be confused with evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk is very sweet (and very sticky) and used primarily in desserts.

Nothing brings you back to your childhood like a warm cup of decadent hot chocolate. In the winter months, nothing says "cozy" quite like a mug filled to the brim with this classic treat.

1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
4 1/2 cups whole milk, divided
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract, optional
miniature marshmallows, for garnish
cocoa powder, for garnish
Combine the sugar, cocoa powder, and 1/2 cup of the milk in a saucepan over medium heat. Cook, stirring constantly, until the milk comes to a boil. Cook, stirring constantly, for 2 minutes.
Add the remaining milk and cook, stirring constantly, until the hot chocolate is heated through but do not let it boil.
Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the vanilla (if using). Serve the stovetop hot chocolate immediately, garnished with marshmallows and a sprinkle of cocoa powder, if desired.
Not to be confused with evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk is very sweet (and very sticky) and used primarily in desserts.
