Homemade Sweet And Sour Sauce

1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1/3 cup red wine vinegar
1/3 cup frozen orange-pineapple juice from concentrate
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
directions
Combine the brown sugar and cornstarch in a saucepan. Stir in the vinegar, juice, and soy sauce. Add the ginger and garlic powder.
Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it is thick and bubbling. Set aside to cool.

I also added red pepper to mine, very easy to make. I did double the recipe.

Good balance of sweet and sour. I also add crushed red pepper like Mom of 4 does.

This is a wonderful sauce that will make any meal seem like you went all out! Pour over meatballs, chicken strips or breaded pork, or use as a dunking sauce. I used just pineapple juice in the recipe for sweet and sour meatballs for a luau party. Perfect!

I went looking for an "Orange Chicken" type sauce and definately found it...I loved it, the perfect amount of juice/sugar for the sweet and also nicely sour. I am definately making this again. One thing I did was add a teaspoon of crushed red pepper (to a double batch) for a little "kick" at the end :)
