Ingredients: 10 hot dogs 1 small onion, thinly sliced 1 bay leaf 1 can (12 ounce size) beer 1 tablespoon sugar 1 can (16 ounce size) sauerkraut, drained 10 hot dog buns hot German mustard
Directions: Lightly score the hot dogs with a knife in a crisscross pattern. Place the hot dogs in a plastic container with a tight-fitting lid. Top the hot dogs with the sliced onions and bay leaf.
Combine the beer and sugar in a bowl or measuring cup and mix until the sugar has dissolved. Pour the beer mixture over the hot dogs.
Seal the container and refrigerate the hot dogs overnight to marinate in the beer.
When ready to cook, drain the beer marinade from the hot dogs into a deep skillet. Add the sauerkraut to the skillet in an even layer.
Place the hot dogs on top of the sauerkraut. Bring the marinade to a boil over medium-high heat then reduce the heat to a simmer. Let the hot dogs cook on top of the sauerkraut for 15 minutes (you can turn the hot dogs over halfway through the cooking time if desired).
Remove the bay leaf from the skillet.
Place the hot dogs on buns and top with the sauerkraut and mustard. Serve the German hot dogs immediately.
