Ingredients: 1 1/3 cup sugar 2/3 cup shortening 2 cups unsweetened applesauce 2 2/3 teaspoons cinnamon 2/3 teaspoon cloves 2/3 teaspoon nutmeg 2 2/3 teaspoons allspice 2/3 tablespoon jam (any fruit) 2 2/3 cups flour 1/3 teaspoon salt 1 1/3 teaspoon soda 1 1/3 eggs 1/3 pound candied pineapple 1/3 pound candied cherries 2/3 pound candied mixed fruits 2/3 pound chopped dates 2/3 cup raisins 1 1/3 cup chopped walnuts
Directions: Combine all ingredients except fruits and nuts and mix until smooth.
Stir in fruits and nuts. Line the bottom of two loaf pans or one tube pan with well-greased and floured double-thickness brown paper or parchment.
Bake at 300 degrees F for one hour (test for doneness with a toothpick).
