
Sauteed Filet Mignon with Portobello Mushroom Sauce

4 pieces filet mignon
Montreal steak seasoning or other savory seasoning
2 tablespoons olive oil to saute
***Sauce***
1 tablespoon butter or margarine
1 package (8 ounce size) sliced portabella mushrooms
1 clove garlic, minced
2 splashes balsamic vinegar
1 dash worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon flour
1/2 cup beef broth
1/4 cup heavy cream
salt and pepper
1/2 teaspoon fresh thyme, chopped
Season meat and sear both sides in a heavy duty pan which has been heated with olive oil. Continue to cook/turn meat until medium rare, which takes several minutes on each side.
Remove meat from pan and add butter to pan. Add mushrooms, garlic, balsamic vinegar, Worcestershire sauce and cook and stir to soften mushrooms. Add flour and stir all together. Add broth and cook and stir to thicken. Finish sauce by adding cream.
Season with salt and pepper to taste. Add chopped thyme. Serve sauce over or under the meat.
