CDKitchen https://www.cdkitchen.com
Serves/Makes: 4 | Ready In: < 30 minutes
8 ounces uncooked penne or ziti pasta or pasta of choice
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons finely chopped onion
1 clove garlic, minced
16 ounces tomato sauce
6 ounces tomato paste
3 ounces Jack Daniel's whiskey
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 cup half and half or heavy cream
salt and pepper, to taste
freshly grated Parmesan or Romano cheese
Cook the pasta in boiling water until al dente. Drain well.
Meanwhile, combine the butter, onion, and garlic in a saucepan over medium heat. Cook until the onion is soft, about 5 minutes.
Stir the tomato sauce, tomato paste, Jack Daniels, sugar, and basil into the onion mixture. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat then reduce the heat to a simmer. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 10 minutes.
Remove the pan from the heat and whisk in the half and half. Cover the pan and let the sauce sit for 2 minutes or until heated through.
Season the sauce to taste with salt and pepper. Toss with the pasta and serve hot, topped with freshly grated cheese, if desired.
