Ingredients: 1 packet active dry yeast 1/2 cup warm water 1 1/2 cup buttermilk 5 cups flour 3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese 1/3 cup sesame seeds, toasted 2 tablespoons sugar 1 tablespoon baking powder 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper 1/4 teaspoon pepper 1 stick butter 1/2 cup solid shortening
Directions: Stir yeast and water in a bowl until yeast dissolves. Stir in buttermilk.
In a bowl, stir flour and next 8 ingredients until blended. Add butter and shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add yeast mixture, stir until a soft dough forms.
Turn dough out onto a floured surface and knead 15 times, until smooth and elastic. Roll out dough to a 12 inch square. Cut in six strips. Cut each strip diagonally, crosswise to make 7 diamond shaped biscuits. Prick tops with a fork.
Place on ungreased cookie sheets, cover with a towel and let rise 45 minutes. Heat oven to 400 degrees F. Bake 15 minutes or until biscuits are browned. Remove to wire rack to cool.
