1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup sifted flour
1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
directions
Cream together sugar and shortening, add egg and vanilla, mix thoroughly. Stir in flour, then nuts.
Drop by small rounded spoonfuls on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees F for 6 to 8 minutes, or until lightly browned on the bottom. Serve with your favorite ice cream.

I made them for a church function and everyone wants the recipe. The kids AND the adults loved them.
