Have you ever started cooking something and wished you had prepared some of it in advance to save time? Or, have you gone to grab something out of the pantry only to realize you're out of it? Frustrating, right?
That's where these "make ahead" recipes come in handy!
Maybe you forgot to buy heavy cream or onion soup mix at the grocery store. No problem, just make your own. The bonus is, not only will they be healthier since they won't contain preservatives and the additives manufacturers put in to maintain shelf life, but they'll usually taste a heck of a lot better too.
Or, maybe you like the convenience of having baking or biscuit mix on hand so you can whip up a batch of something quick. The mixes in the store can get expensive and often contain extra ingredients you don't need or want. You can make your own at home for pennies compared to what the commercial versions cost. And making up mixes ahead of time can help your family out too. Make it easy for the kids to make some hot cocoa or bake in their Easy Bake Oven by preparing them in advance and keeping them on hand.
Of course, since you can change the serving sizes on our recipes this means you can make as much or as little of the mixes as you want or need. Maybe you want to give away cookie mixes in a jar to all your friends - just scale the recipe up to make as many gifts as you need. Or scale down a make ahead recipe for an emergency ingredient substitute when you don't need a whole recipe.
