Think of calzones as a pizza pocket. Using similar dough to what pizzas are made of, toppings are put on top of a small round of dough. The dough is folded over and sealed to form a closed pocket with the toppings inside. The calzone are baked to a golden brown and served warm. You'll find all kinds of fillings in them from traditional pizza toppings like pepperoni or sausage, to standard sandwich ingredients like ham and cheese.
