Both melba toast and the dessert peach melba were invented by the chef of the world renowned Savoy Hotel in London in the late nineteenth century to honor Australian opera singer Dame Nellie Melba. Peach melba is a refreshing dish of vanilla ice cream topped with peach and raspberry sauce and a little sugar. Give it a try; it's National Peach Melba Day!
